The die is cast – the engrossing history of e-sugoroku prints in the Edo period

Introduction of the Exhibition

The people of Edo loved colorful e-sugoroku (illustrated board games) not only for playing but also for viewing. The prints provided a vicarious experience of different places. E-sugoroku taking the Toukaidou Highway as their theme were often produced into the Showa era even after the means of transportation changed from feet to trains. Please enjoy the numerous e-sugoroku, which are full of features aimed at delighting the eyes of viewers.
