Another Toukaidou: The Diversity and Unique Style of Toukaidou Depiction

Utagawa Hiroshige’s series Hoeidou Toukaidou is the most well-known series of all ukiyo-e depicting the Toukaidou, from the Edo period up to the present day. However, many series depicting Toukaidou were shadowed by the fame of the Hoeidou Toukaidou. In this exhibit, we will display ukiyo-e depicting the Toukaidou from the collection of Fujisawa city that are less-known. This exhibit will also introduce the originality of ukiyo-e artists and the influence Hiroshige had on them.
