Utagawa Hiroshige’s Fifty-three Stations of the Toukaidou, is a series also known as the Jinbutsu Toukaidou (Figure Toukaidou). The most noteworthy characteristic of this series is the view of the Toukaidou coupled with the depictions of people with widely varied expressions. However, the series also includes enticing views of the land, its seasons, and the people’s customs. This exhibit will also introduce the seasons of Edo seen in the prints of the Jinbutsu Toukaidou series.
