|Yamagishi Kazue (1891-1984)
He started out his career as a woodblock carver. Then he studied under Kuroda Seiki and mastered western style painting. He carved woodblock designed by a woodblock artist Paul Jacoulet, who was also a pupil of Kuroda.
In this picture, Kazue illustrated vivid yellow leaves of a ginko tree, which still exists today at Yugyouji Temple. In the other work, the peaceful Ryukouji Temple, the temple known for its connection with the Holy Priest Nichiren is illustrated. The organized black roof tiles of the temple complex are beautifully illustrated.
